RECOVERY THROUGH A LENS
This photographic exhibition is the work of residents from Ambassador House in South Shields. A number of creative and talented individuals were involved in the project to recreate their recovery journey.
A NECA project, Ambassador House is a quasi-residential substance misuse recovery house, which aims to “enable recovery” from drug and alcohol dependency. The project involves an intensive programme for those who are drug / alcohol dependent. The treatment regime is a comprehensive programme known as “12 Step Therapy”.
This exhibition is a subjective photographic interpretation of the individual client journey through the 12 step recovery programme. Although all clients have a similar “experience” of the programme, their individual “experiencing” often differs. This exhibition therefore hopes to communicate the individual perspective of “recovery”.
Integral to the recovery process is the acceptance that recovery is a lifelong, ongoing process, similarly that the concepts of the 12 steps are evident in our everyday lives and indeed our community.
This exhibition aims to highlight the individual’s subjective experience and communicate this narrative through the medium of photography.
